The trip is nearing its end with a few days in Porto, Portugal. Again, we made use of excellent public transport on a direct bus from Pontevedra to Porto. The hotel is on the river in a section of the city known as Ribeira. Porto is a vertical city and maybe some of the photos below convey that dramatic verticalness. If it is not up, it is down. We climbed to the cathedral, another Romanesque building with a baroque interior. Looking at the gold in the cathedral — there is a lot of it — I was reminded Spain and Portugal at one time owned most of the world (in the 16th century). Porto is also famous for its azulejos, or blue tiles, found in the train station, cathedral cloister, on the front of buildings…tickets tonight to an event at the Casa Musica, said to be an extraordinary new concert hall.
