Burgos, day one

Arrived today in Burgos. So far getting around by public transport has been a breeze and inexpensive — it is such a great relief not worrying about a car. Burgos’s cathedral (third largest in Spain after Sevilla and Toledo) dates to 1221, although construction continued for centuries. The cathedral is on the side of a hill with terraces and plazas at different levels surrounding the building: the terraces must be perfect for important holy days such as Palm Sunday and Good Friday. The cathedral is too large to fit in one photo.

We spent the day walking around the town, visiting a small museum, and one church and having a very fine meal in a superb restaurant. Asparagus is in season and I enjoyed a plate of Iberico ham with asparagus as a starter today. The food in Spain has not disappointed.
