Travel schedules meant a late departure from Burgos, but on a fast train — speed topped out at 249 km an hour! We arrived late in the afternoon in Leon and have found it to be a college party town — so many young people and so much wine and beer.
Before leaving Burgos I discovered several religious observances. In one church preparations were being made for a festival in honor of Our Lady of Soledad. (Note in the photo below an angel with handkerchief at the feet of Mary.) In the cathedral people were queuing to venerate a medieval crucifix. In León people were drinking.
