Today was a last day in Santiago, a lovely city. We wandered around window shopping and eating and visited two museums: the very large cathedral museum and a fascinating museum of the Galician people. The distinctiveness of this part of Spain is becoming clear — the people speak Galician, not Spanish, and signs are in Galician. This area was at one time also Celtic, as were parts of the British Isles, Brittany and Normandy.
One of the most extraordinary sights today was a triple helix stairway: three separate staircases twinned together. It does not appear in the photos, but the stone of the steps was very thin and did not always meet. The lightness of the staircase was enhanced by seeing daylight between the risers.
