West Quoddy Head, Maine

West Quoddy Head is the easternmost point in the continental US. We were there on a beautiful, still day, unusually warm for the end of November. This is one of my favorite coastal hikes in Maine. The coast is rugged: granite meets evergreens at the ocean. The West Quoddy Head light has a companion light in East Quoddy Head on Campobello Island, New Brunswick. That light is dramatic in its distinctive way. This area is the southern tip of the Bay of Fundy, where tides vary 20+ feet between low and high tides. before leaving West Quoddy Head we had pre-Thanksgiving turkey sandwiches.
